General Information

The Philippines is an archipelagic sovereign state in Southeast Asia, with over  7,100 islands dotted over  300,000 square kilometers of territory.  It is divided into three island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The tropical climate here has an average temperature of 27°C (82°F).

The Philippines is a democratic and Republican State, with the President of the Philippines acting as both the head of state and the head of government.

The other co-equal branches of the Philippine Government are the bicameral Congress and the Supreme Court. The Congress, or the legislative branch, is headed by the Senate President for the 24 member Senate and the Speaker of the House for the district and party list representatives. The Supreme Court, or the judicial branch, is headed by the Chief Justice.

The country’s primary exports include electronics, semiconductors, transport equipment, construction materials, and minerals. The Philippines trades with other economies around the world with Japan, the United States, China, South Korea, and Germany as its top export markets.
